Why Fairtrade?

The road to fair trade isn’t always easy, but it’s worth the journey! Thanks to the many visitors and feedback we get at the Lombardia restaurant we can plug our vision to various sources with ideas and dreams in all aspects of the process.

The last few years have made us research deep into the idea of fair trade, simply because it is only fair to work with ingredients that come from an honest source. Thanks to Vredeseilanden we have an official Fair trade logo in which we support better conditions for local farmers in third world countries.

Fairtrade & ‘Vredeseilanden’

It is with great pleasure that we partnered with Vredeseilanden, one of Belgium’s leading humanistic organisations, who have really guided us in taking the right steps toward sourcing honest ingredients.

We started our campaign with them at the end Lombardia Hot Drinks Max Havelaar2012 by donating 3% of our world turnover, to make a clear statement about the effort-conscious route we were taking. They’ve also put us in touch with the Max Havelaar organisation, who monitors us closely and acts like a bridge between buyers and traders.

From June 2014 our company and all of our products are fair trade certified by Max Havelaar.

To further illustrate that we’ve really upped the game here, and, next to our Fair trade ingredients, we also make conscious efforts to use local producers guided by the Kauri organisation. Kauri is the Belgian sustainability network that brings local companies together to reduce carbon footprint.
